Meeting Arun Jaitley, The Finance Minister in Delhi on 14th May, 2015


On 14th May, 2015, GJF delegates led by Chairman-GJF, Mr. Manish Jain, along with me and  few Board members, met Hon’ble Finance Minister, with regard to Pan Card issue (the Government’s announcement on the applicability of the Pan Card on Jewellery purchases of Rs. 1 lakh and over).  The Finance Minister gave a patient hearing on the various issues faced by the industry.  The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere, wherein The Hon’ble Finance Minister spent almost 27 minutes with the GJF delegates.  The outcome of the meeting was quite encouraging and positive.  We should be receiving a positive response from him with regard to Pan Card limit.

Introduction

         Mr. Shantilal Jain (born on 10th January 1946) is an Indian business magnate and philanthropist who is the Chairman, Managing director of Shantilal and Sons Jewellers, Nellore, which is the first corporate jewellery showroom, established in the heart of the Nellore city and he is the Government approved valuer for jewellery. As the Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. Shantilal Jain has not only maintained the rich legacy of this great institution, but his tireless endeavour has ensured it has scaled new heights.


Early life:
         Mr. Shantilal Jain was born on 10th January, 1946 in Gudabalotan, Jalore District, Rajasthan and he studied till 7th grade then discontinued... During the period of 1959-64, he then moved to Nellore in search of a better living…Later he started working at the age of 13 yrs (No there were no child labour regulations then) he soon entered the trading of jewellery marketing as his entrepreneurial nature made it difficult for him to stay content with a mere day job. After developing good relations with suppliers and customers in the business of jewellery trading, he performed a vital role for his deemed venture which came into reality in the year 2008 by establishing a corporate jewellery showroom first time in the heart of Nellore City, Andhra Pradesh, India. 


Personal Life:
        Mr. Shantilal Jain resides in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, and is married to Santri Bai and having four children namely Shankar, Pramila, Kamlesh and Rinku


Honours and Recognitions:
·    On 24th November, 1964 he along with his family members established a jewellery showroom namely “Shantilal and Bros Jewelers in Nellore, A.P.
·    In the year 1969, he exclusively established a showroom namely “Shantilal Jewelers” apart from family management.
·    On 12th February 1987, the aforesaid “Shantilal Jewelers” was converted into “Shantilal and Sons Jewelers” at Nellore.
·    In the year 1991, Sri Shantilal Jain was elected as “SOUTH INDIA PRESIDENT for Akhila Bharateeya Rajendra Jain Navayuvak Parishad -ABRJNYP”.
·    In the year 1997, Sri Shantilal Jain was elected as “SECRETARY- GENERAL for The Nellore District Bullion and Diamond Merchant’s Association, Nellore”.
·    In the year 1998, Sri Shantilal Jain got licence from prescribed Government as “GOVERNMENT APPROVED JEWEL VALUER”.(Reg No: CATIII.21.97-98)
·     In the year 2003, Sri Shantilal Jain was elected as “PRESIDENT for The Nellore District Bullion and Diamond Merchant’s Association, Nellore”.
·     In the year 2003, Sri Shantilal Jain was officially launched the first  Diamond Jewellery Showroom exclusively on behalf of the Shantilal and Sons Jewellers, Nellore, A.P”
·     In the year 2004, Sri Shantilal Jain has an abiding interest in ensuring development of education and healthcare around in India and has been instrumental in supporting organizations such as the “Chinnari Heart Foundation” (A leading heart care organization), as in which he is one of the committee member and contributing his effort for the children age between 0-20 years who needs the medical treatment regarding open heart surgery.
·      In the year 2006, Sri Shantilal Jain was elected as “PRESIDENT for
(a)    Akhila Bharateeya Rajendra Jain Navayuvak Parishad -ABRJNYP,and
(b)    Shaswat Dharm.
·     On 18th February,2008 the said Shantilal and Sons Jewellers has converted into a complete corporate showroom which is the first jewellery showroom made one stop for all kinds of jewellery at  Nellore, A.P under the management of Sri Shantilal and his Sons.
·     In the year 2009, Sri Shantilal Jain as a President of Akhila Bharateeya Rajendra Jain Navayuvak Parishad –ABRJNYP with the team made an event namely “GOLDEN JUBILEE OF ABRJNYP” for completing 50 years of excellence and service.
·         Sri Shantilal Jain continuing as a PRESIDENT for “ Sree Jain Swetambar Murthy Pujak Sangh, Nellore since 2011.
·     In the year 2012, Sri Shantilal Jain elected as a “LIFE-TIME PRESIDENT” for The Nellore District Bullion and Diamond Merchant’s Association, Nellore and  
     In the year 2012, Sri Shantilal Jain as a President of Sree Jain Swetambar Murthy Pujak Sangh, Nellore with the team made an event namely “TEMPLE PRATISHTA” by nature of Na Bhuto Na Bhavishyati.....
·     In the year 2013, Sri Shantilal Jain was elected as “NATIONAL CHIEF ADVISOR for Akhila Bharateeya Rajendra Jain Navayuvak Parishad -ABRJNYP”.
·    In the year 2014, Sri Shantilal Jain was elected as “ALL INDIA CHIEF VICE PRESIDENT for Akhila Bharateeya Sree Jain Swetamber Tristutik Sreesangh”.
·   In the year 2015, Sri Shantilal Jain is elected as “CHIEF ORGANISER” for “ The A.P. Bullion, Gold, Silver and Diamond Merchant’s Association”.



Philanthropy:
          Mr. Shantilal Jain has an abiding interest in ensuring development of education and healthcare around in India and has been instrumental in supporting organizations such as the “Chinnari Heart Foundation” (A leading heart care organization), as in which he is one of the committee member and contributing his effort for the children age between 0-20 years who needs the medical treatment regarding open heart surgery. In addition, he has been a generous patron of arts through his involvement to encourage the wealthiest people to make a commitment to give most of their wealth to philanthropic causes.
